The following is a brief description of some of the unique experiences offered at Longfellow Spanish Immersion School:

SAGE Garden Project

"Sage Garden Project has developed original Garden & Cooking lessons for K-5 elementary students called the Wild Wisdom Gardening & Cooking Curriculum. Our goal, first and foremost, was to create a curriculum for ALL learners to build and practice gardening and cooking skills. These skills serve as the foundation for students to understand & experience the world around them as well as to nourish their bodies and share their bounty with others. Each lesson is designed to incorporate the philosophies of inquiry-based, experiential and reflective learning and are aligned with NGSS and Common Core standards." Description directly from the Sage Garden Project.

Art Corps

"ART CORPS™ is a comprehensive, developmental curriculum, which teaches art fundamentals by bringing process oriented hands-on art experiences to the classroom. Since 1990 the ART CORPS™ program has been taught at several San Diego area schools. It is uniquely designed to provide onsite workshops that prepare parent volunteers to go into the classroom and provide art lessons to children in grades K-8."  We are currently looking for parent volunteers. Description directly from Art Corps San Diego.

Full Day Kindergarten
Kindergarten students attend school on the same schedule as the older students. This program is designed to help transition young students to the rigors of a full day with developmentally appropriate educational activities to facilitate reading, writing and math readiness for the first grade.

Library
Our library is open starting the third week of school.  The library is always in need of parent volunteers to help shelf books and help students during their library visits. Please contact the school if you are interested. Longfellow holds a Scholastic Book Fair during the year where parents and students can purchase quality Spanish and English books and help support the library.

Instrumental Music Program
A district-sponsored program brings instrumental instructors to the school to give instrumental music lessons to all students in Grade 5. Instrumental music is a component of the California State Framework in the Visual and Performing Arts. Students' accomplishments are celebrated at the end of each six-week instrumental session by inviting their families to see them perform an informal concert.

Middle School Athletics
Our middle schoolers participate in intramural sports across the district.  Please check out the district website for details.
